Certain terminal breeds associated with ‘easy lambing’ are unsuitable for producing maternal replacements. Similarly, certain maternal breeds associated with ‘easy lambing’ rarely produce wether carcases that finish at a commercial grade within the same season without winter keep.
The Roussin provides the ultimate crossing breed that enables you to rear supermarket-grade lamb with the option of retaining suitable females as flock replacements. They are ‘easy lambing’ with their long necks and slender shoulders – making them perfect for use on ewe lambs. What’s more, they can breed early in the year so produce a finer-boned crossbred ewe to rival the traditional ‘Suffolk type’ that will produce early season lamb with more lambs born and greater early growth.
Roussin rams are excellent for outdoor lambing and hill sheep. Lambs are vigorous and develop the ability to sprint!
